Streamlining IT Management with SCCM 2016

North East London NHS Foundation Trust is an NHS foundation trust which provides mental and community health services.

It runs Foxglove Ward, Goodmayes Hospital and Sunflowers Court in Ilford, Phoenix House in Basildon, Heronwood & Galleon Inpatient Facility in Wanstead, Grays Court Community Hospital in Dagenham, and Hawkwell Court in Chingford. Altogether it operates from more than 150 sites.

The Challenge

North East London NHS Foundation Trust (NELFT) needed to evaluate and implement a robust solution for managing their diverse IT infrastructure. They required a proof of concept (PoC) for System Centre Configuration Manager (SCCM) 2016 to assess its capabilities in automating IT administration, monitoring, provisioning, and service management tasks.


The Solution

Altiatech proposed a comprehensive SCCM 2016 PoC implementation to address NELFT's requirements:

1. SCCM & SQL Build Out

  • Installation and configuration of SCCM 2016 and SQL server
  • Setup of core SCCM roles and features

2. Application Packaging

  • Creation of 10 application packages for silent installation
  • Development of deployment strategies for these applications

3. Device Driver Integration

  • Creation of 5 device driver packs for specific hardware models
  • Integration of driver packs into SCCM for streamlined deployment

4. SCCM Configuration

  • Setup of image deployment capabilities
  • Creation of task sequences for automated deployments
  • Configuration of scheduled updates and distribution points
  • Implementation of PXE boot for network-based deployments

5. Windows 10 Image Development

  • Creation of a standardised Windows 10 image for deployment
  • Integration of necessary drivers and applications



The Results

By implementing this SCCM 2016 PoC, NELFT was able to achieve:

Through this project, NELFT gained a fully functional SCCM 2016 environment that significantly enhanced their IT infrastructure management capabilities. The solution delivered centralised management of devices, automated software deployment, and streamlined OS deployment processes. With 10 packaged applications ready for deployment, 5 integrated device driver packs, and a standardised Windows 10 image, NELFT was well-equipped to improve their IT operations.
