Bank of England

Cloud Adoption and Modernisation

The Organisation

Client: Bank of England

Industry: UK Central Bank

Services: IT infrastructure

The Bank of England, the UK's central bank, sought to modernise its IT infrastructure and adopt cloud-based services to enhance its capabilities and operational efficiency.

The Challenge

The Bank faced several challenges across multiple areas:

Cloud Operating Model:

  • Need for a strategic technology capability and operating model
  • Requirement for a cloud vendor-agnostic approach
  • Integration of technical and business processes
  • Compliance with information security standards and data policies

Existing Services Migration:

  • Migration from legacy hosting to cloud services
  • Modernisation of applications to minimise cost and complexity
  • Increase in agility and security

Cloud Adoption Enablement:

  • Development of a solid foundation platform for cloud services consumption
  • Support for modern application workloads and cutting-edge cloud technologies
  • Integration with strategic Microsoft cloud solutions

Investment in Tooling:

  • Adoption of agile working methods
  • Improvement in delivery predictability, quality, and efficiency
  • Implementation of cloud-native approaches and tooling

While Appvia was leading the overall cloud adoption strategy, the Bank needed to incorporate its strategic SaaS solutions, particularly Microsoft Dynamics 365 (D365), Exchange, and SharePoint Online, into the comprehensive cloud roadmap. Altiatech was brought in to partner with Appvia to address this specific challenge.

The Solution

Altiatech, in collaboration with Appvia, proposed the following approach to integrating strategic SaaS solutions:

Microsoft Dynamics 365 Integration:

  • Development of a migration roadmap for existing CRM services
  • Implementation of D365 to manage external participant interactions
  • Creation of an all-encompassing externally facing portal for participants and internal staff

Exchange and SharePoint Online Integration:

  • Seamless incorporation of these platforms into the overall cloud operating model
  • Ensuring compatibility with the new cloud-native infrastructure

Identity and Access Management:

  • Implementation of Azure Active Directory for unified identity management across D365, Office 365, and Azure services
  • Setup of single sign-on capabilities for improved user experience and security

The Results

By integrating these strategic SaaS solutions into the cloud roadmap, the Bank of England achieved:

  • Enhanced collaboration and communication capabilities
  • Improved customer relationship management through D365
  • Seamless integration between cloud services and existing systems
  • Strengthened security and identity management
  • Increased agility in responding to changing business needs
  • Reduced infrastructure management overhead

Altiatech brought to this project:

  • Deep expertise in Microsoft technologies, particularly D365 and Office 365
  • Experience in integrating SaaS solutions into complex IT environments
  • Strong partnership with Appvia, ensuring seamless collaboration on the overall cloud strategy
  • Focus on delivering practical, value-driven solutions aligned with the Bank's specific needs

By partnering with Altiatech for the integration of strategic SaaS solutions, the Bank of England ensured that these critical platforms were seamlessly incorporated into its broader cloud adoption initiative, maximising the value of its Microsoft investments and enhancing its overall IT capabilities.
