The School

Hardenhuish School is a high performing Academy based in Wiltshire, Chippenham. The school is fully dedicated to their students, with a large population of 1,500 pupils aged between 11-18 years.

With a commitment to bring technology into the classroom, Hardenhuish is one of 37 schools and colleges in the UK to be awarded the Microsoft Showcase School status for their work in using computer technology.

Lisa Percy, Headteacher at Hardenhuish School explains:

“I want our classrooms to be as active and engaging as possible” explains “making sure that our teaching and learning fully equips pupils for what they're going to have to face as the years go on.”

Vision and Goal

With a strong background in technological innovation, Hardenhuish school selected to work with Altiatech in the summer of 2018, for help in updating their teacher's hardware.

With our transparent pricing structure, we were able to advise on the relevant laptops and identify the Surface Go as the principal device for teachers to use within the classroom. Altiatech arranged for Hardenhuish to be the first school to get a hands-on demonstration of the Surface Go. With the right features available, such as it being portable, versatile and affordable, Hardenhuish School rolled out the device on the first day of term in September 2018, and the results were remarkable.

Classroom Experience

The teachers saw a considerable transformation in the classroom when working with the Surface Go.

The primary benefits experienced by the teachers was that the Surface Go supported collaboration and increased efficiency.

Philip Arkinstall, History Teacher stated:

“Surface Go is allowing us to become more creative in the classroom and to be more accessible in terms of sharing, producing and collating information. The device helps me every single day: I can't imagine actually doing the job without it.”

Key Benefits

  • Versatility and Classroom collaboration

With a detachable keyboard, Surface Pen and front and rear facing camera, the Surface Go offers excellent versatility in the classroom.  The device also gives teachers more freedom when engaging with students. The teachers found they could offer more personalised one-on-one teaching because they could share work directly with students and collaboratively work together.

  • Long Battery Life and Interactive Experience

With a long battery life, the device can last through the whole day, and teachers can carry on using many of the applications online. The interactive experience has also been an enormous benefit, enabling teachers to swiftly move between highlighting, writing and bookmarking work with no delay between applications.

  • Portable Power and Disk Space

With a large amount of disk capacity, more resources were installed on the devices, including SharePoint and OneDrive, as well as better security.

“All teachers’ marks for a young person are kept on their tablet, which is much more secure and means that it's accessible for them if they are meeting with parents...It’s a very powerful device.”  Lisa Percy.
